Here's an official estimate of the location and length of the fissure eruption. The eruption is just northeast of the town of Grindavik, with the power plant and Blue Lagoon to its west. The fissure appears to be over a km long! A lava flow prediction map will be released. pic.twitter.com/1gMivHKbIv

It looks like the fissure follows the old crater line of Sundhnúkagígar. This is hopefully good news for the town of Grindavík but still to early to say. Via https://t.co/bWKkWdI1ZS #icelandvolcano #iceland pic.twitter.com/rcEy9Pccif

Beautiful picture of the erupting fissure. It looks like the 3,5 km fissure is on a northern sloping area thus the lava is flowing towards the north, which is good news for the people of Grindavík. #icelandvolcano 📷Almannavarnir pic.twitter.com/8HquScvdpn
